As the oldest and well-known juvenile furniture brand in America, Simmons Kids strongly believes that "quality furniture begins with a great foundation."
Since 1891, the rich history of Simmons has reinforced the company's longstanding commitment to offer exceptional products at affordable prices, a tradition they continue to uphold today.
Founded in New London, Wisconsin, Simmons Kids Furniture began with the Andrae Manufacturing Company. In an exciting turn of events in 1917, famous inventor Thomas A. Edison purchased the company and changed its name to Edison Wood Products, Inc. and began producing wooden phonograph cabinets for the Edison phonograph.
The depression that followed World War I caused a rapid decline in the industry. Considered a luxury item, sales of phonographs declined, and with the advent of the radio the company began looking for other products to manufacture. In 1929 the company introduced infant furniture which would later become known as the Little Folks brand in 1937. In 1957 Edison Inc. was merged with McGraw Electric Company. While the New London plant retained the name Edison Wood Products, the parent company became known as McGraw-Edison.
Simmons Company originated as one of the many projects of the Wisconsin businessman Zalmon Simmons. He purchased a factory for its equipment where he eventually manufactured woven wire bed springs and this became Simmons Manufacturing Company in 1870. This family business diversified their many businesses during the post war era and into the late 1960s. In 1969, McGraw-Edison was purchased by the Simmons Company of New York. A major bedding products manufacturer, the Simmons Company changed the name of the plant in New London from Edison Wood Products to Simmons Juvenile Furniture.
In 2006 Simmons Juvenile Furniture became Simmons Kids Furniture under the division of Delta Children's Products. For 40 years, families have grown with Delta Children's Products cribs, children furniture and accessories. With a focus on innovation, optimum convenience, versatility, quality and value, Delta Children's Products has always been committed to meeting the demands and high safety standards of both retailers and consumers.
No matter the name, the goal of Simmons Kids Furniture has remained unchanged - to offer people excellent items at an affordable price while continually creating innovative and safe products.
Today, Simmons Kids Furniture still strives to always be a step ahead and continues to set high standards for the manufacturing process that sets them apart from their competitors.
